overclocking in i7

Heres a post for some of you guys who recently bought new pc's with it 920's. I think there are a few..

I got mine last year and the first thing I wanted to do was overclock it. I searched the net to figure out how as it was different then how you do it on previous chips. It seemed like 3.7 would be ok without the temps getting out of control. Did it and it's been stable since.

So today I was trying to get more out of the video card. I accidentally reset my bios by unplugging the PSU. No problem except that I forgot extacly what setting to OC it again. I got on the net and found something interesting.. When you search for ocverclock -7 920 like I did you get a lot of information about the first gen chips which have a designation C0. Thats guided me with my setting. Today I realised that I have a 920 designated D0. Wondering what that was I found it clocks higher and is a lot cooler..

The end result is that for a lower cpu temp at full load I am now running at 4.2 gig instead of 3.7 air cooled. Not with the stock cooler though.

So if you bought one of these chips in the last 6 months or so you might not be getting all you can out of it if you went with the first searches you found in google.
