Orion's dropping bombs.

Doesn't it seem a bit strange for an orion to drop bombs? I know it's about our only aircraft and preferable to the helicopters but it still seems a little strange.

It reminds me of how many people to change a lightbulb joke. How many crew in an orion to drop one small bomb.

Kai, maybe you can answer why we do it? I imagine if we go in to a war zone supporting the yanks or brits etc they won't ground their fighters and send us in to drop something small.

Ah, now its on the news. For subs.. makes more sense, didn't think about that. Kai, would you get close enough before a modern sub would get you?

They were primarily bought for dedicated anti submarine warfare along with the Leander frigates, to protect commercial shipping so NZ doesn't become isolated in the event of a conflict.

We used to work with them quite often in anti submarine excercises. They mainly dropped sonar bouys for grid searching but occasionally they would hatch the odd torpedo or other explosive device.
